Independence Day

Wasn't July 4th a great day?!  Having a day off in the middle of the week made me (and apparently everyone else) think it was Saturday all day long.  We had a nice lazy morning and cooked a big breakfast with peach pancakes, bacon, and "farm fresh" eggs.  Mason loved the pancakes!

For lunch we went to Ben's Grandma and Grandpa's house to celebrate with the family.  We enjoyed good food and good company.  Pictured above is Mason with his great grandma! What a blessing for Mason to get to know his great grandparents.

In the afternoon we headed up to the lake to spend some time celebrating with friends where Mason feasted on grilled corn.  (More on the corn obsession coming up.)

Isabelle was there!

And so was Lillian!

And Mason found a balloon that provided lots of entertainment!

We spent most of the afternoon playing on the big shady porch until the sun went down.

And I had fun taking pictures.

Then it was a party in the pool until dinner time!

After dinner, Mason was exhausted and kept falling down.  When he gets sleepy he can't seem to hold his balance as well.  So, we cut out early and saw a few fireworks on the drive home.  We had a wonderful day and are so thankful for our country, family, and friends!

Discovering

Remember back in the day when it wasn't 100+ degrees outside?

You could go out and play.  (For more than 10 minutes.)

You could enjoy doing a little work in the garden.

You could ride around on a 20 year old horse.

And then realize you didn't know how to get off.

Or make it go forward.

You look to mommy for help.

But mommy takes advantage of this opportunity to document your baby boy feet.

These are the days that mommy finds such joy watching you

As you contemplate a blade of grass....

and then see what happens when you add it to water.

And observe you...

as you try to make your London tour bus into a boat....

and then venture to the far side of the patio and dig your baby spoon into the cracks of the bricks.

In these moments I think of how blessed I am

that I get to watch you learn

 and grow

and enjoy the simple things God gave us.

I treasure all of the moments I get to watch you discovering your world.

And I can't believe you are mine.
